Nice-to-have addons:

ClassicCastbars – castbars. Supplement ElvUI’s castbars. I disable the nameplate, but use the target castbar for quick interrupt responses.

GatherMate2 – map markers for gathering nodes. Adds markers on world map for nodes of gathering professions.

ItemRack – gear set manager. Introduces ability to save gear sets via an equipment manager interface.

MaxCam – increased camera zoom. Automatically increases max camera zoom distance, without needing to run a script.

MikScrollingBattleText – customizable floating combat text. Adds ability to group and style floating combat text into a much cleaner presentation.

MonkeyQuest – enhanced quest log. More functional quest log, customizable styling and grouping. I choose this over ElvUI’s.

Speedy AutoLoot – efficient looting. Removes the loot window for auto looting and reduces the amount of time it takes to loot items.

TradeSkillMaster – economy/trading. Notable gold-making addon to help you earn gold, as well as other quality of life functions like vendor price.

What’s Training? – leveling information. Lists training skills as you level, great for knowing when to head back to town.

Class add-ons

All the above-described add-ons may be used by any class and any role in the game, as each gives Players lots of various options. However, there are some modifications, which are made especially for certain classes or even specializations. We will present the patient reader with the most important ones below. Note: if the title of a concrete add-on has no description, search for it in the text above.

Druid

Druid Bar – This is a very simple yet important add-on for all Druids, as it allows them to see their mana bar even while shapeshifted.

(Tank) Gear Menu – This is a very useful add-on for all classes and specializations, as it saves gear sets of a Player. It is very easy to change your current gear in no time without all those searches throughout the inventory. Gear Menu is irreplaceable for those who use several specs permanently.

(Heal) VuhDo – This is a raid frame monitor add-on that displays the health of raid members in the form of clearly arranged bars. VuhDo is primarily directed to healing classes but will make use to almost any other class. It also can show several healing spells or other actions at the same time.

(Heal) Heal Comm Classic – This is a simple, lightweight yet crucial add-on for all raiding healers. It is highly configurable, has the incoming heal and Feign Death indicators. It easily communicates with other healing add-ons. Shows the Player incoming heals on a target from anyone who also uses this add-on and how much your HoTs will heal on the target.

(Heal) Five Second Rule – Shows the countdown of the five seconds (FSR or 5SR) until your mana from Spirit will regenerate, as well as each tick once the five seconds are over. The timer starts counting down whenever the player successfully spends mana.

Hunter

Weapon Swing Timer – This add-on is, without a doubt, an absolute requirement to play a Hunter effectively in Classic WoW, for it tracks yours and your target’s swing timers. It also shows the Auto Shot timing and other shots casting time. Works for wand user as well.

Classic Aura Durations – Displays the remaining time on Buffs/Debuffs.

Paladin

Pally Power Classic – This add-on provides an interactive and easy to use interface that allows you to set your blessings and automatically checks for missing buffs with an easy to read indicator. Usable in dungeons and raids and can assign blessings to other Paladins. None of the assignments can be changed in combat, unfortunately, due to the in-combat lock-out.

(Heal) VuhDo

(Heal) Heal Comm Classic

Priest

– A special trinket-changing add-on. It shows two equipped trinkets in a bar. Mouseover on either trinket will display a menu of up to 30 trinkets in the bags to swap.

Clique – Allows the user to bind certain spells, abilities, and unit frame actions to whatever keyboard and mouse combinations they wish. It also combines with the majority of interface add-ons.

(Heal) VuhDo

(Heal) Heal Comm Classic

(Heal) Five Second Rule

or Classic Castbars

Rogue

Nug Energy – This is an essential Rogue add-on, as it shows the tick rate for every incoming 20 energy. The add-on is customizable and is suitable for both PvP and PvE. It also alerts the user if the energy is capped.

Tulla Range – Another handy Rogue mod that makes standard action buttons appear red when the target is out of range. Colors for both the out of range and the out of mana/energy/rage indicators are customizable.

(Heal) VuhDo

(Heal) Heal Comm Classic

(Heal) Five Second Rule

Warlock

Necrosis – A Warlock special add-on helps you managing Soul Shards, Soul Stones, Health Stones, Fire Stones, and Spell Stones. It also provides an easy menu to summon demons, give buffs, summon players, apply curses, and tracks DoT timers.

Basic UI improvements and tools

There are a variety of addons that are designed to improve the default user interface or provide useful tools that don’t come as standard. While the options for addons like this are myriad and can get very complex if that’s what you’re looking for, these are some of the more standard options that are popular with a lot of players and don’t require lots of effort for basic configuration.

Action-bar clean-up: Bartender4

There are a lot of ways to customize your UI, especially if you’re willing to spend a lot of time getting everything just right, but one of the quickest way to upgrade the default interface is Bartender, which gives you a lot more customization and control over your all-important action bars without requiring much set-up.

Damage meters: Recount or Details!

One of the major features that World of Warcraft lacks by default is a way of seeing exactly how much damage or healing you and your group is doing.

As in retail WoW, the two go-to options for damage and healing meters are Recount and Details!, both of which offer all the information and customization you could want in a clear and unobtrusive table. Which you choose is largely a case of preference.

Recount also offers detailed breakdowns of damage and healing.

Map upgrade: Atlas World Map Classic

For those that aren’t a fan of the default maps in World of Warcraft, the Atlas World Map upgrades them to a more detailed version that better captures the features and environmental differences between zones.

Article continues after ad

Atlas World Map does remove the need for players to “discover” new areas in order to be able to see those sections of the map, but it doesn’t offer any additional assistance beyond clarity – whether that’s a simple convenience or takes away from the true Classic experience is for you to decide.

The Atlas World Map gives you an improved map to work with.

Bag improvements: OneBag3 or Bagnon

The default bags in World of Warcraft can be a bit cumbersome at the best of times, and in Classic you’re likely to have less space and more items.

To save you from searching through multiple bags trying to find the items you’re looking for, OneBag3 and Bagnon are designed to unify your bags into a single space with more options and tools for organization.

Article continues after ad

At the time of writing, Bagnon is unfortunately out of date and doesn’t actually work, so it’s worth grabbing OneBag3 for the time being, but if you’ve used Bagnon in retail and would prefer it, you can keep an eye out for an update on the Twitch app.

Vendor Price

Anyone playing WoW should seriously consider Vendor Price, which lists the amount that each item will sell for to a vendor. It sounds simple, because it is, but it can also be crucial to help decide what to hang on to and what to get rid of while out questing.

Maps Addons

Atlas World Map

It’s only fair to start this addon section with Atlas World, being one of the most popular addons in this category. This addons basically modifies the default WoW maps by making them more visually appealing while adding extra details.

Atlas Classic Wow

Atlas is a very old addon that was rebuilt from scratch and works for Classic WoW. The addon will simply display the maps for all the dungeons and raids in the game. It’s a pretty important addon since it shows the whole dungeon map and the location of all the bosses. Combined with AtlasLoot, it makes a powerful combo for your adventures.

MapCoords

MapCoords does exactly what it says, it displays a set of coordinates on your world map. The addons offer your current coords as well as cursor coords. As a bonus, MapCoords also lets you see the coordinates of your group members, which is a great feature as well.

SimpleMap

SimpleMap is a nifty little addon that makes the world map smaller and removes the black background. The addon fades the world map when you start moving, making it more manageable while trying to get to certain locations.

SexyMap for Classic

SexyMap is a popular addon that transforms your minimap visually using a set of predefined textures and shapes. The addon is extremely customizable as well allowing you to move and resize the map, ping locations, customization of other buttons around the map and so forth. If you like to enhance your minimap, this is the addon to get.

Bartender4

A favorite of World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft Classic players is Bartender4. With it, you’ll be able to fully customize all actions and anything related to those bars, like those for your bags, stances, pets, micro menus, and your XP and Reputation. Customization is the name of the game and a must-have for anyone who wants to make adjustments to the standard layout.

Deadly Boss Mods

The Deadly Boss mod makes it much easier to track what’s happening in a raid or a dungeon. It’s a mod that distinctly breaks down each section of whatever content you’re trying to work through, giving you great assistance if you’re not quite sure how everything works. Once you’ve gone through a location enough times, it should become pretty simple to figure out, and you might eventually get rid of the mod because you know it like the back of your hand.

Image via Blizzard

DejaDebuff Tracker

The DejaDebuff Tracker add-on creates a moveable tooltip that shows all of the current buffs and debuffs happening to your character. You’ll be able to properly manage them by placing them in specific locations on your screen. It’s a popular choice that has been updated for Burning Crusader.

HandyNotes

There are not too many small icons on your world map and mini-map that detail specific locations, such as boats, zeppelins, and trams. Rather than looking them up or memorizing them, the HandyNotes add-on places them on your map so you can see their exact locations at a glance.

Pawn

If you’re looking to create a specific character, you’ll be hunting certain pieces of gear to properly build yourself into an optimized tank, damage dealer, or a heal. The Pawn mod makes it easier to pick between several equipment pieces, making sure you choose the best option for your character. It’s a much more efficient way to ensure you’re grabbing the correct items.

Questie

When trying to learn the location of specific items for a quest, it can be hard and time-consuming to find them in-game or online. The Questie mod is something that can cut your time in half by directly telling you where you need to go to find specific items. The one thing wrong about this mod is that it is being updated nearly every day, so there’s a chance you might run into some problems. Regardless, it should make questing and finding specific items in World of Warcraft Classic much easier.

Taxi Timer

The wait times for traveling using a flying mount never get old. Some locations can take several minutes before you reach your destination. If you’d like to know the exact time until you reach a particular place, you can download the InFlight Taxi Timer, which details how long the overall flight is and how far you are. You can see when you have to wait two more minutes, giving you plenty of time to step away and deal with other business.

Vendor Prices

How much is an item worth to the junk vendors? With the Vendor Prices mod, you can hover over any equipment or junk item in your bags to figure out how much it’s worth. It’s much quicker to inform you of the best things to remove from your inventory and what you should keep.

Weak Auras 2

The buff and debuff icons in World of Warcraft Classic are vague and don’t give you the full picture. To make your life easier, the Weak Auras 2 mod comes with customized animations for any buff you give other players or any you receive, and the same goes for debuffs that an enemy hits you with. All of these can be customized to your preferred choice.

Combat tools: Dungeons, Raids, and PvP

Whether you’re a casual player simply hoping to die a little less often, or you’re looking to be as effective as possible in raids and PvP, there are a variety of addons that will make both staying alive and pumping out as much damage or healing as possible a bit easier.

Article continues after ad

GTFO

Rule one of almost any MMO is “don’t stand in the fire” – or any other avoidable source of damage for that matter – and to help you avoid doing so there are few more effective tools than GTFO, which will simply warn you rather loudly whenever you’re taking unnecessary environmental damage.

This is particularly useful for hectic boss fights with a lot of things to concentrate on, or players who play on low graphics settings where distinguishing the danger might be a little more difficult. No matter who you are, though, GTFO is likely to save you from some unnecessary deaths over your Warcraft career.

Article continues after ad

DeadlyBossMods

If you’re looking to make Dungeons and Raids easier, there are few more useful addons than DeadlyBossMods. Forget memorizing boss mechanics, DBM will guide you through encounters with warnings for upcoming abilities and even pointers on how to respond.

This is another one that’s right up there on the assistance scale, but when faced with the frustration of multiple wipes in raids and dungeons because you can’t quite get the mechanics down, it can quite literally be a life-saver.

DeadlyBossMods even lets you customize the types of warnings you get for different abilities.

WeakAuras 2

WeakAuras is a highly-customizable addon that allows players to create graphics and other indicators for buffs, debuffs, and a variety of other relevant information. In retail WoW, WeakAuras has been a staple for high-end raiders for some time, and anyone who’s already familiar with the addon will be pleased to hear it’s supporting Classic as well.

Article continues after ad

WeakAuras is an enormously powerful tool, but isn’t the simplest of addons for beginners, so it may not be necessary unless you’re really trying to maximize your effectiveness, or get everything set up just right for a complicated boss fight.

Questing

Questie – Probably the most usable add-on in Classic WoW as it adds icons to the map for the quests in your log, shows what quests you can pick up, and presents lots of useful tools. Beware: Questie kills the lore of the game a little bit, but if you are interested in level up to 60 as fast as possible – this is your chance.

Azeroth AutoPilot Classic – Provides various features such as auto skipping cut scenes, auto talk to NPCs, auto pick up and hand in quests, etc. It is mostly intended for speed leveling. AutoPilot will give you predefined quest paths based on your level, class, and other variables; provides making hotkeys or macros to use quest items.

Immersion Classic – This add-on is quite the opposite of Questie. Perfect for those who want to get more into the story of the game. It displays the quest text in a far more pleasing manner and shows the character, which is relaying the dialogue.

– Despite the awkward name, this is an invaluable add-on that creates the two-pane quest log, allowing you to see all of your quests on the left, and the currently selected quest information on the right.

Quest Icon Desaturation – A very simple, though quite useful add-on, which correctly turns quest giver dialogue markers grey for uncompleted quests.

Best WoW Classic addons: WeakAuras2

WeakAuras is a popular addon in modern Warcraft, and much of its functionality has been translated to Classic. It can be used to track pretty much anything you can think of and is commonly used to keep track of cooldowns or to give a visual indicator of spell procs or buffs based off any number of triggers. The simple WeakAura in the example above will put an icon on my screen if my priest hasn’t been buffed with Power Word: Fortitude. As this is something I often forget to do, especially as the duration is half as long as it is in modern Warcraft, it’s a neat little reminder. If you don’t feel confident building your own, you can import WeakAuras (opens in new tab).

Pick up this addon on the (opens in new tab) page.

Бой

  • Hodor Reflexes прежде всего нужен для того, чтобы участники рейда вовремя и поочерёдно сдавали ульты горна и колосса. Также имеет встроенный функционал по замеру ДПСа.
  • Combat Metrics — если с вас потребовали парсы, то настало время этого аддона. Он нужен для замера собственного дпс. Для аддона нужно назначить кнопку.
  • RaidNotifier Updated—
Alpha Gear 2.
  • Srendarr— добавляет возможность отслеживать баффы и дебаффы как на себе, так и на других членах группы.
  • Auto Recharge—

BigWigs or DBM-Classic

If you plan on raiding in WoW Classic, you’re going to need to install BigWigs, DBM-Classic or a similar timer addon at some point. As much as it’s a hassle to update these addons, keep up with the changes to the latest version, find a way to get them to work with your UI, ect — you need this information popping up on your screen to prevent mistakes. Every guild will ask you to download this addon or something similar.

  • Boss timers make the game fool proof. You will not make mistakes when you know exactly when a raid mechanic is about to happen and how to respond to the mechanic.
  • Sound and visual indicators on mechanics.
  • Every raider will hit a wall in progression when he or she needs a DBM addon to survive a fight and carry their weight for the raid. It’s better to have it when you need than wait until you need it to download it and set it up. Molten Core and Blackwing Lair are straight forward, but Ahn’Qiraj and Naxxramas will be more demanding.

Dungeons and Raids

Deadly Boss Mods – Classic (DBM)

DBM or Deadly Boss Mods is one of the most popular addons in World of Warcraft for a while now and it’s coming for Classic as well. The addon is an excellent dungeon and raid helper, providing you with cooldowns and notification during dungeon or raid fights. It suffices to say that DBM makes your life A LOT easier when doing dungeons and raid encounters since you’ll always know when boss abilities are about to be cast on you or your group.

AtlasLootClassic

AtlasLootClassic is a Classic WoW addon made after the popular AtlasLoot Enhanced. Since Vanilla WoW and evidently, Classic WoW does not have an adventure journal to see what are the loot tables of each dungeon or raid boss, AtlasLoot comes in to fill the gap. With AtlasLootClassic you can see every loot dropped in-game by dungeon and raid bosses, faction rewards, sets, world boss loot tables, crafting materials information and more. Basically, if you want to see what’s available in the game for the taking, AtlasLootClassic will do just that.

Clique for Classic WoW

Clique is an addon that we still use in the current ‘live’ version of WoW and we’ve kept a close eye to see if the developers will port it to Classic WoW. If you’re a fan of the addon (like we are), rejoice, Clique was made for Classic. For those that don’t know, Clique allows you to bind various spells and macros to your mouse buttons or other keys that can be used by click-casting and hover-casting on your unit frames and in the game world. You can bind virtually any mouse or keyboard combination to a spell or macro. That’s why Clique is one of our preferred addons to install.

HealBot for Classic

While HealBot isn’t ported fully to WoW Classic yet (but we’ve decided to add it to the list anyway due to its demand). It’s rumored that developers stated they are working on it and they will release a Classic-only version soon. We’ve included the Curseforge download link to keep an eye out for the release. Healbot is a very useful addon that lets you configure various keybindings or key combinations to cast heals or other useful spells on players. The addon also lets you cast harmful spells on enemies as well as being used for decursive functions.

Leveling

Questie

Questie is a quest helper addon for Classic WoW which displays available quests, shows them on your map and evidently, tracks the quests progress.

Azeroth Auto Pilot – Classic

Azeroth Auto Pilot is a relatively new addon for World of Warcraft that allows the player to power level very fast by displaying quest markers, directions to the next quest, auto-skipping cutscenes and auto-turning of quests. The addon was ported to Classic recently so if you want to level the fastest without reading quests or doing other activities, Azeroth Auto Pilot – Classic is probably your go-to choice.

ClassicCodex

ClassicCodex is based on pfQuest, a popular Vanilla addon. ClassicCodex is a handy quest helper that displays available quests on your map and minimap as well as spawn markers for the NPCs needed for those quests. The addon also offers a frame with quest progress when hovering over mobs, npcs or objects. What’s nice about ClassicCodex is that it allows you to auto-accept and auto-turn quests when you visit their associated quest-givers. That’s an excellent feature if you want to powerlevel or turn those quests faster.

MonkeyQuest

MonkeyQuest is a leveling addon that lets you track your quests using a customizable frame. The addon displays various details such as quests levels, difficulty, and overview as well as opening the quest log when clicking on the quest frame.

Levelling tools

Addons that assist in the levelling process, especially those designed make questing easier or more efficient, are very much in the category of altering the standard Classic experience such that those who really want to play the game as it was originally designed will want to stay away from them.

Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest updates on Esports, Gaming and more.

That being said, for some players levelling is little more than a chore that must be completed in order to unlock the end-game content they’re really interest in. If you’re looking to hit 60 as quickly and easily as possible, these addons may help.

Questie

Questie is designed to add many of the features that retail WoW boasts to make finding and completing quests easier, giving players markers on the map showing where they can start and complete quests, as well as identifying where you need to go to find and complete the objectives.

Article continues after ad

While it’s not quite a quest guide, Questie will help cut down on time spent looking for available quests and then scanning the quest log to figure out exactly where you need to go and what you need to do when you get there, making life easier for those that want to charge through content more quickly.

Questie offers many of the questing conveniences that players have gotten used to in retail WoW.

Azeroth Auto-Pilot Classic

For those who want to put the absolute minimum thought into levelling their character, Azeroth Auto-Pilot goes one step further and gives you a step-by-step guide to the most efficient levelling route, including which quests to pick up, which zones to level through, and even giving you an arrow pointing in the direction you should be travelling to reach the next objective.

Article continues after ad

While most players will likely want to experience WoW Classic with a bit more interaction, at least the first time around, if you find yourself levelling multiple characters you may find that the assistance provided by Azeroth Auto-Pilot eases the grind from time to time, especially if you’re only levelling an alt for the purpose of using it for end-game content.

Azeroth Auto-Pilot streamlines the levelling experience for those who want it to be as easy as possible.

Combat & Trackers

WeakAuras 2 Classic

WeakAuras2 is a very powerful addon that allows the player to track different spells and auras in the game. You can create trackers for your spells including activation trackers or cooldowns, as well as tracking various auras for enemies by filtering cooldowns, combat events, runes, totems, items, and many other triggers. The addon also lets you customize various aesthetic aspects by customizing your auras in different ways (textures, display and more). WeakAuras2 has a very big community behind it and you can check out or use a lot of player-made auras for Classic on wago.io.

TellMeWhen Classic

TellMeWhen is another combat addon that’s very popular in World of Warcraft and was modified to work with Classic WoW. Similar to WeakAuras2, you can track a lot of combat elements such as cooldowns, weapon enchants procs, buffs/debuffs, spell casts, events and other cooldowns. The addon uses a set of more than 100 triggers to customize and create various events using icons, bars, and animations. While TellMeWhen has similar functionality as WeakAuras2, they complementing each other in various ways.

OmniCC Classic

OmniCC is a simple yet powerful addon that displays text cooldowns to spells, abilities or items. The addon works with the default interface as well as most custom interfaces and other addons. In other words, we strongly advise installing OmniCC as it improves the game considerably.

ClassicCastbars

ClassicCastbars is an addon that adds castingbars to the target frame and nameplates in WoW Classic. The bars are relatively simple and they are based on the default Blizzard skin. You have to keep in mind however that due to API limitations, the castbars aren’t 100% accurate. Players that want to predict fake casts shouldn’t rely upon these bars.

MikScrollingBattleText Classic

MikScrollingBattleText is a popular addon that lets you add scrolling numbers around your character or your screen that show damage and healing numbers, incoming damage and healing and different types of auras.

WeaponSwingTimer

If you play a melee class in Classic WoW you’ll probably love WeaponSwingTimer. The addon tracks your swing timers as well as your enemy’s. However, WeaponSwingTimer will also track a Hunter’s Auto Shot as well as wand attacks, if you’re a caster. All-in-all, we say it’s worth having it installed.

Dungeons and Raids

Atlas Loot Classic – This is a UI mod that gives access to the loot tables of bosses everywhere and at any time and shows a full list of the Best In Slot items for your class and where to get them. It also provides information about crafting materials, created items, and skill ranks.

Atlas Classic WoW – Provides instances maps to the Player, marks the locations of major bosses, provides detailed and accurate information about all of the creatures, NPCs, objects, and events you’ll encounter in each instance.

Deadly Boss Mods – Classic (DBM) – It is a dungeon support add-on; probably the best and most popular among others of its kind. DBM warns you when a boss is about to use certain abilities that might require you to move or counter its spell.

Big Wigs Bossmods – The boss encounter add-on. It triggers alert messages, timers, and sounds for specific encounters. This add-on is similar to DBM, but the memory/second and CPU/second footprint of Big Wigs is the lowest among all boss mod add-ons.

TellMeWhen – Another highly customizable modification that provides visual, auditory, and textual notifications about elements of combat such as cooldowns, buffs and debuffs, reactive abilities, temporary weapon enchants, totems, runes, spell casts, and any combination of over 110 other things with easy-to-use conditions.

Weak Auras 2 – This powerful and flexible framework add-on is necessary for anyone who plans on doing raiding. It tracks auras, health, power (mana, rage, soul shards, holy power, etc.), cooldowns, combat events, runes, totems, items, and more. Everything is customizable.

Decursive – This add-on tracks the cursed members of the raid/party. Allows you to prioritize decursing some classes over others. Decursive supports all classes with cleansing abilities and configures itself automatically. It is suitable for both PvE and PvP as you can polymorph/cyclone/hex mind-controlled players.

Looting

Looting is another important aspect of WoW Classic, with the ability to acquire new items such as armor and equipment adding more powerful tools to your belt as you grind through quests.

Gatherer

For players who want to make cash through professions, Gatherer is a must-have. After installation, it tracks the locations of all gathered materials on your map, so you can go back later and harvest without having to search around again. If you’re looking to load up on materials quick, this add-on can be a lifesaver.

Faster Looting

If you haven’t already, you should go into your interface options and check off Auto Loot, then you should download Faster Looting – which makes gathering loot off of your vanquished foes even quicker

AtlasLoot Classic

AtlasLoot Classic provides a database which reveals where players can find different loot items across the game, and the chances of it dropping when you get there. This mod can be the perfect way to make new plans, find your next much-needed upgrade, and decide whether it’s worth chasing an item if the drop rate is deemed to be too low.
